Why is McMurphy depicted as Jesus?

He sacrificed himself for the patients. His life and purpose was "pure" in that he fought to show the patients that they were not freaks to be cooped up, but people who deserved and had the and ability to leave the asylum and enter back into the world. After his death, they did just that.
