Does the statute of limitations keep me from pursuing collection agencys if it was more than 7 years ago?

I need to find out if the statute of limitations will affect me if I pursue collection agencys that garnished money from me back in 2000, when I filed for bankruptcy in 1997 prior to the bankruptcy laws changing on filing against student loans? Also, do I just need the case number or a detailed transcript of my bankruptcy with the list of creditors to prove that this was discharged. Thank you, hope someone can help me with this issue.
