Garnishment notification?

My paycheck was garnished $300 on 6/3 (will be a total of $600/mo). I received no notification - had to call our payroll office to see where my money went. I can't pay my rent now. I lived in the same apt. for 29 years....my rent went up almost $200 in one month, and after 29 years the new manager said I missed two rent payments (total of $1240) and evicted me. Now a year later my check is garnished with no notice. I live on 2 paychecks a month. How can it be legal to do this without letting me know? I know garnishments are a common thing - how can it be done w/o notice? What the F do they think I'm going to live on now. I live in Kansas - probably soon in a box under a bridge. Yes, I went to court last summer over the eviction - of course the lawyer won because I couldn't afford one. Who could come up with $1240 in 3 days? I was lucky I found a cheap apartment the same day I was 'evicted.' Oh, when I was evicted - I'd also been on 15 months of forced unpaid furlough days thru my employer and no raises in 3 years. Furlough days just stopped in January and I was just now getting caught up. Now I get garnished, is there anything I can do? I called the attorney's office and she would not take my call.
